Giving the keys to your teenage driver is one of the most difficult things you’ll ever do as a parent. While teens may drive safely when mom and dad are in the car, crash rates increase dramatically when they are not. Usually, the root causes of teen auto accidents were:

  • Failure to stay focused on one’s surroundings
  • Failure to maintain a safe driving distance
  • Excessive speed

Teens are four times more likely than adults to crash, and more than 3,000 fatalities each year makes auto accidents the leading cause of death among teenagers. Studies have found that mounting cameras inside the vehicle reduces risky driving behavior by 70 percent.

DriveCam is helping teenagers become safer drivers by encouraging them to reduce their risky behavior behind the wheel. It is a nanny cam that records and alerts parents to risky driving incidents. The installed cameras record 20 seconds of video in and outside the vehicle. An aggressive driving event, such as a drastic swerve or slamming on the brakes, will trigger the cameras to save the recording and alert the parents. The clips show how easily an accident can happen, and comes with tips to share with teens to avoid future situations and improve their driving habits. It provides parents with physical evidence and examples they can use to teach skills, correct behavior, and improve driving

A University of Iowa study on the effects of DriveCam, showed that teens were not only surprised to see how their actions contributed to risky events, but they the riskiest drivers reduced their unsafe habits by 88%. Thanks for the video and suggestion. With a 16-year-old driver I know we need all the help we can get. I'll pass this on!
