Recall: Child Safety Locks

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) Inc. announced a voluntary recall of Push 'N' Snap cabinet locks. The CPSC says 900,000 locks are being recalled because of several reports confirmed the risk to small children. According to reports, three children swallowed or handled cleaners or detergents after getting into a cabinet their parents thought was locked. The children were treated at the hospital and released; none were seriously injured.

The recall involves Safety 1st Push ‘N Snap cabinet locks with model numbers 48391 and 48442. The products were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond and other retail stores nationwide, as well as online through Amazon.com from January 2004 through February 2012. The product was manufactured in China.

Consumers should immediately remove the recalled locks from cabinets and contact DJG for free replacements. For additional information, contact DJG toll-free at (866) 762-3212 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s website at www.djgusa.com. Contact the CPSC at (800) 638-2772 or SaferProducts.gov to report an incident or injury.

The CPSC is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of the thousands of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction.
