Father of Five Faces Consequences of Driver Fatigue

Comments Off

A 33-year-old Kentucky man and father of five admitted to reckless driving and driving without insurance last August resulting in the death of a Proctor & Gamble executive. The man was on his way home from work when he fell asleep behind the wheel and ran a red light, slamming into the executive’s 2006 Audi. The executive died at the hospital. The negligent driver suffered minor injuries; he is now serving 180 days in jail and five years of probation.

A study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that drowsy driving involves about one in six deadly auto accidents; one in eight accidents resulting in hospitalization. Sleepiness decreases awareness, slows reaction time, and delays in processing information; the risk of auto accident significantly increases. After the sentencing, the wife of the Proctor & Gamble executive said, "You know, I don't hate [him], I honestly don't know what kind of person he is, but I do really feel strongly that you have to be aware when you drive. Driving while exhausted is so dangerous. It's as dangerous as drinking while driving or texting while driving; I mean somebody ultimately was killed here.”

Lawsuit Financial actively promotes driver safety and publicly addresses the many driving distractions that exist in our daily lives. Please do not put yourself and others at risk. Do not drive while fatigued, talk or text while driving, eat and drive, put on make-up or shave, or look at directions. Avoiding all driver distractions – even for a second might make a difference in your future, and that of others.
